We collect data to continuously monitor and improve our social responsibility strategy. Results from regular employee engagement and employee engagement surveys, for example, help management understand what’s working and where we need to do better.

We actively find ways to support the communities in which we operate, such as through education and collaboration.

We are on a journey towards zero harm and Marel is committed to a culture of safety that applies to all aspects of our global operations, including the work performed on-site for our customers. Our goal is to create a safe environment for our employees, contractors and visitors with the best possible health protection, promotion of well-being and prevention of absenteeism as a result of work activities.

Employee engagement is key

Code of conduct

Marel‘s Code of Conduct provides guidance on how to work and act in line with our purpose, our values and the highest standards of integrity. The Code supports us in complying with the law and Marel's policies and ethical principles.

Marel’s vision is founded on the strong belief that we can create economic value and have a positive social impact at the same time: in partnership with our customers, we are transforming the way food
is processed. Our vision is of a world where quality food is produced sustainably and affordably. The purpose of this Code is to support that vision. It expresses who we are and what we expect from each other and our partners. It is an ethical and practical map to guide us.

Workers’ rights are human rights

We have a zero-tolerance policy for human rights violations, including child labor and illegal labor conditions.

All new suppliers are required to comply with Marel’s standards for human rights and labor, as described in our Code of Conduct.

We are committed to respecting the right of all employees to freedom of association and collective bargaining without discrimination, as established in the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention (C. 87), and the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention (C. 98).

Ways to report concerns

Marel complies with the European Whistleblowing directive, and related local legislation. We do not tolerate and we prohibit any retaliation against a Whistleblower who has made a report in good faith. Reports can be made to any Marel manager, and the identity of the reporter will be protected unless consent is given is to disclose and/or there is a legal requirement to share the identity. We invest in the welfare of the communities in which we operate. We focus on educational outreach in collaboration with local learning institutions, and we offer our employees opportunities for continuing education.

Many of our production facilities offer internships and trainee programs to assist talented young professionals in developing their skills.

Knowledge is our most valuable asset when it comes to transforming food processing. Sharing our knowledge can help raise the standard of living and enhance social and economic stability. This is one of the ways we contribute to sustainable development around the world.
